I don't think anything Joe does is a coincidence. In many references he is using pieces of art history to further cement what is he currently up to. One of the first things I can recall him doing in office was adding a bust of Cezar Chavez within the Oval Office. Unlike the last administration Joe is trying to reach out to not only Latino Americans, but other marginalized groups as well. With the president using past images to reinforce his message it's a breathe of fresh air compared to the cliche of the American flag and bald eagle. While I am certain it is someone on his staff intentionally displaying these images I have to give kudos to them for keeping up with creativity. www.yahoo.com/news/t-just-coincidence-biden-using-080026252.html Bob RossIn Indiana at a museum there is a special Bob Ross exhibition showing various artifacts that belonged to the former celebrity. While I think it is great he is being showcased for another generation to learn about him, he is often portrayed as a campy figure in the arts. So often the discussion is centered around more "serious" artists. The question I pose is would you teach your students about Bob Ross? Why or why not?

I think this is a great question. I think it would be important to show different examples of how people paint so I would show a video of him. However, I wouldn't make students follow a tutorial because it can be frustrating for them.

Good point. I have yet to try to follow one of his painting lessons because I have heard of how easy he makes it seem. Making it easy was a part of his success but I also think how many people were able to paint with the same ease he created.

I will show his video to the students. Although Bob Ross draws so easily, his finished paintings can be frustrating for students because they are colorful, on the other hand, they can give the idea that anyone can draw as they please. I will show students his videos and teach them about them as an accessibility to art, not as a matter of drawing well and bad.

This is so clever and out of the box for President Joe Biden to do. I don't think this is coincidental at all and if anyone is noticing them, that just means it's working. Great idea Mr. President!

This can't just be coincidental! It's amazing that people caught onto President Biden's choice of sculpture and paintings and I love the symbolism and analysis that the article goes in depth in. Symbolism is everywhere! This article makes me want to keep my eyes peeled for symbols.

I would definitely show a video or two of Bob Ross. However I would not make my students follow the video. I would only show it to show different forms of art and the different ways people create it. I myself have tried to follow along with one of his videos and it was very frustrating so I think it would be frustrating for others as well.

I agree, I think it would be frustrating to follow. I think it would be a neat way to show how it could be done. Maybe just not for beginners.
