For the Tinkercad assignment I initially wanted to do an Olmec face mask. I was under the assumption this was some type of program in which I would start off like a block and be able to carve down like in traditional media. I quickly realized this was more like a building type of program. I had to scratch the idea of a mask and decided to create an animal. I chose a snake because I have always liked the way they looked. For me, snakes have always represented the most misunderstood animal. I think this ties into the way snakes have been depicted all throughout time beginning with the Biblical creation story of a mischievous animal. On my tinkercad mine looks a bit more cuter. He doesn't seem like the type that would attack but rather come up and play with you. In all honesty this was my least favorite assignment. I was struggling a lot in the beginning with zooming back and forth and for some reason really struggled with duplicating the objects. Just like all of the other assignments once I got the hang of it, it started to make more sense.
Bitmoji Classroom
To be completely honest I did not enjoy this project in the beginning. I was having a difficult time with creating the bitmoji part. However, once I got the ball rolling it became easier with time. I loved how easy it was to add links to my classroom. The hardest part in the end was deciding what to put in my virtual classroom. For the first time I was thinking to myself that I get to choose what my future students would learn. I would certainly use this in the future so that my students would be able to make reference to it so that they could refresh their memory should they need to revisit.

Group Project
For the group project I was in charge of the anticipatory set activity and a lesson plan. I felt like we had a lot of free range to do what we would do in our classrooms. When I was filming the anticipatory set I realized a few things. I have never created a video before so I improvised and propped my cell phone against two books while I was filming outside. I am thinking going forward I need to invest in some sort of stand for my phone if I am going to give lessons through video. I was also using the method Dr. Gatlin taught us to record over for our slides project.
For the lesson plan I tried to keep the questions pretty open ended. I would like for students to gather and discuss where they see themselves in certain groups and how they can relate to each other in different groups as well. If I were to give this lesson plan (which I totally will when I become a teacher) I would tell my students to reveal about themselves only what they feel comfortable with. Should a student have a disability, be undocumented, trans, or living in some marginalized group I would not want them to feel pressured in saying it in front of everyone. However, if someone did reveal something deep about themselves and felt the need to share it with the class it give a face to marginalized groups.
Lastly was the zine I created that was all about myself. In the beginning I illustrated myself and on the second page I spoke about my complicated ethnicity. I know in our group we wanted to centre around one word but for my identity in being a Brown/Chicano/ Mexican- American/Latino person it doesn't fit neatly into a box. The second image is being queer, I glittered it and made it look a bit distorted because to me being queer is outside of the norm. Lastly was a saying with a little tribute to my grandfather who used to color in coloring books when he was retired. I know he was interested in the arts and never really go into creating much. In a way I am living out his dream.
Lastly I drew myself as the drag queen Divine. This camp figure who was something like a clown and this is how I can view myself and I don't always take myself so seriously.

Podcast
Reflection: For this assignment I was going for the 1980s PBS tutorial aesthetic. Something where many years ago one would have to dig through their VHS collection in order to replay. I am pretty pleased with the outcome and how I felt the music was appropriate and the image transitions look like they were done on a camcorder. Looking back, after receiving some feedback, I would adjust the volume of my voice versus the volume of the recording. I did find this assignment beneficial in working towards future teaching assignments. Should I need to record a demo for those students who might want to revisit a tutorial this would be the ideal approach. Of course I would modify things a bit to not make it look dated.
Podcast Script: There are three things I am constantly thinking about when it comes to my artwork: space, time, and the use of objects. This is my workspace as you can see it is littered with things I constantly use. For some reason I feel like if I put something away I can never find it again. Like it’s lost in some dark abyss. Sometimes I wish I was more organized and my setup looked like something out of a Martha Stewart magazine. Then again I remember even Martha has a team working behind her and I’m just a one man show.
I typically work in a small scale because I am limited to the space in my bedroom. I will show you the process I use for my doll photography. I love to use old dolls as my muses because when I was a kid I wasn’t allowed to play with them. Now as an adult I can spend my money on all the dolls I want.I try to imagine if these dolls were real people what would their lives be like. I capture the display intentionally on Polaroid film because it creates an image of “instant nostalgia.” What’s neat is Polaroid created a mini “lab” where images can be uploaded from your iPhone through an app and converted into film photography. There are some old fashioned things I do miss with using this method. I love the spontaneity of the composition. However, with typical Polaroid cameras I cannot get this close to an object without it being blurry. I try my best to show mistakes in my work because I never want it to come out robotic and too clean; because clearly I am anything but that.
